General structure isn’t all that Sonic Frontiers should borrow from Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Sonic Team would be wise to tap into Arceus’ rules of exploration. Much of the game is only accessible once players unlock certain ride Pokemon, and as a result, players are well incentivized to return to familiar places as they get farther into the game. Sonic Frontiers needs a similar mechanic for its own exploration. In order to make its various open zones feel meaningful and achieve Pokemon Legends: Arceus’ sense of scale, Sonic Frontiers needs to give players ways to discover new things by revisiting old zones....

Luckily, Sega’s addressed that issue with a new overview trailer for Sonic Frontiers. The three-minute video offers a succinct summation of the gameplay that, if not providing anything necessarily new, lays out the gist of what’s been revealed about Frontiers so far in the clearest and most easy-to-understand fashion to date. Following the climactic battle between Sonic and Dr. Robotnik, the Sonic the Hedgehog movie sees Sonic officially move in with his human friends. After the title card is shown, we get an update on Dr. Robotnik’s situation, as he is now stranded on a mysterious mushroom planet with a much more video game-accurate appearance. Dr. Robotnik on this planet was actually shown in one of the trailers, so it’s a bit odd that the trailers gave away one of the last scenes in the movie, but in any case, this shows that a Sonic the Hedgehog movie sequel will likely feature a crazier version of Robotnik that has even more in common with his video game counterpart....

In but a few months, both Microsoft and Sony have expanded their stable of first-party studios. While some gamers are glad to see the two companies make big moves and breathe new life into studios, others are concerned that the consolidation of power will harm the gaming industry. In all, the PlayStation Classic will feature 20 pre-loaded games.
