A prolonged drought created prime conditions for wildfires as Australia headed into its hottest months, and the fires continue to be fueled by hot temperatures and strong winds. Since September, flames have burned through more than 17 million acres of land, claimed at least 26 lives and destroyed thousands of homes. People around the world have donated to recovery efforts, raising millions of dollars, and images from the fires continue to circulate on social media....

The PlayStation Plus lineup for April 2022 includes Hood: Outlaws & Legends, Slay the Spire, and SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated. The lineup received a mixed response from subscribers, as many users did not find the selection all that exciting. Fans seemed pleased with the free games offered with PS Plus for January and March, but February was similarly lackluster. These games were supposed to be available on April 5, but subscribers in some regions can start playing one PlayStation Plus game ahead of schedule....

States including California, Maryland and New Jersey have put their own temporary bans on evictions to protect residents. The Supreme Court blocked the Biden administration from enforcing the newest federal ban, which prompted the president to urge others to take their own measures. White House press secretary Jen Psaki said the administration was “disappointed” by the court’s decision, and President Joe Biden “is once again calling on all entities that can prevent evictions—from cities and states to local courts, landlords, Cabinet Agencies—to urgently act to prevent evictions....

That’s according to a recent report from PC Gamer. A quick look on the official Steam Deck section of the Steam website shows that the 256 GB and 512 GB models will ship with PCIe 3 x2 solid-state drives, rather than the PCIe 3 x4 variants that they originally featured. It does say that not all of these models will have the different hard-drive, and it does stipulate that the company found no difference in game performance between the x2 and x4....

On August 29, Sports Kyunghyang initially reported that both actresses were confirmed to star in the drama. Hours later, representatives from their agencies replied that the actresses were in fact reviewing the offers. Han So-hee’s agency 9ato Entertainment responded that “she is positively reviewing the offer” while Song Hye-kyo’s agency UAA shared that it is “one of the projects” that she has received an offer for. Influential actresses Song Hye-kyo and Han So-hee in talks for a drama by DOTS director Descendants of the Sun director-actor duo Lee Eung-bok and Song Hye-kyo might be working together to deliver a thrilling mystery drama....

Sonic Frontiers introduces Sage, an artificial intelligence created by Doctor Eggman which has grown far beyond his initial expectations. Eggman sees Sage as a daughter, and Sage spends much of the game acting as an antagonist toward Sonic and friends due to wanting to keep her Father safe. Her growth over the course of the story ultimately leads to her joining forces with Sonic to face off with The End, a terrifying spacefaring monster that devours worlds, and Sage seemingly dies dealing the finishing blow....

With the trailer shown at the Game Awards last December, it was made rather clear Sonic 2 was going to be more like Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles. While Tails had a larger role in the trailer than Knuckles, imagery such as Robotnik piloting a giant robot shaped like him as well as Sonic snowboarding made it rather clear which game the movie would borrow its story from. However, the fans who watched Sonic 2 were treated to more than just references to the Sega Genesis titles....

The stuffed animals have been released as part of a promotion for the Sonic the Hedgehog sequel. Robotnik along with his new sidekick, Knuckles, returns with a new plan to destroy the world. This leads Sonic and Tails on a race against the mustachioed doctor to find a magical emerald that can destroy civilizations. The sequel has received generally favorable reviews and is the top-grossing video game-based movie of all time....

Vtubers, short for “Virtual Tuber,” are a category of livestreaming personalities who use a digital avatar. These can range from 2D to 3D models, which are then rigged to the live streamer’s face so that they can incorporate a range of expressions. Some of these range from a streamer using the avatar as a medium to interact with their audience, while others use them to play both a character while they livestream....

Born in large part from the game design program at Carnegie Mellon University, many of the minds behind Pixelopus worked with Sony Computer Entertainment America Executive Producer Alex Lee as part of their course. These students worked to develop game prototypes for the PlayStation Vita and evidently showed a great deal of promise as some of the graduates of this program have been hired by Sony. While there is no word yet on what their first title will entail, The New York Times reports that its unveiling will occur at E3 — most likely at Sony’s own press conference....

House was speaking because of recent criticism surrounding Sony’s marketing drive for Move, and the fact that Microsoft has clearly invested significantly more in the marketing for Kinect. The Sony Europe boss believes Move will be the motion accessory of choice in the long term, saying that Move can contribute to a wider range of games, whilst the competition, being Kinect, will suffer because it has been based around family gaming:...

Along with confirming the PS5 game reveal event date and time, Sony also revealed some other information on what it will entail. The PS5 game reveal event will be broadcast at 1080p and 30 frames per second, meaning that the games won’t look quite as sharp as they would if the presentation was in 4K. This is due to production issues that Sony has experienced with its team working from home....

On the Death Stranding listing on the UK version of the PlayStation website, there is a header that says “Assist other players” which explains how the game’s multiplayer works. The multiplayer description says that players can “Help other travelers without ever crossing paths via asynchronous online gameplay.” Players can send each other supplies, share safe houses and walk in the footsteps of other players as they try to “reunite civilization....

A total of 2,000 emergency personnel have undertaken almost 1,000 sessions in preparation for the Games, Xinhua quoted Aleksander Chupriyan, the deputy head of the Ministry of Extraordinary Situations, as saying on Friday. A 70-strong search-and-rescue squad will be on hand for anyone trapped in the mountains, he added. “We are ready but let us wish the Ministry is not needed.” There will also be up to 1,300 medical personnel, assisted by volunteers with medical and language training, on standby....
