On Zipper’s blog, Community Manager Jeremy Dunham described what this delay will mean for the game.

Taking some extra time is something that Sony is probably encouraging considering the issues that plagued SOCOM: Confrontation. Confrontation, developed by Slant Six Games, had technical issues and connectivity problems for several weeks after its release in October 2008. The problems were so bad that it drastically hurt review scores across the board.

With the value of the SOCOM name I am sure Sony doesn’t want to see a repeat of that again. I also think this extra time will probably also be used to tweak the controls for the Move. With Nintendo and Microsoft focusing on the casual market for their motion controls, Sony is looking at SOCOM 4 as an example to show that the Move can be relevant to hardcore gamers.

So with all of these games getting delayed into the beginning of next year what is left for Sony this holiday season? Do companies still need big titles released during the holidays or is that just a holdover from the past? Please let me know your thoughts in the comments.

SOCOM 4 hits PS3 sometime in 2011 and we’ll let you know more when we do.
