On June 4, Sony will hold an hour-long presentation on titles that are coming to the PS5, which is still slated for a holiday 2020 release. While specifications and the console’s new controller have already been revealed, it’s time for the games to take center stage.

“I’m excited to share that we will soon give you a first look at the games you’ll be playing after PlayStation 5 launches this holiday,” Jim Ryan, President & CEO, Sony Interactive Entertainment said in a blog post. “The games coming to PS5 represent the best in the industry from innovative studios that span the globe. Studios, both larger and smaller, those newer and those more established, all have been hard at work developing games that will showcase the potential of the hardware.”

The PS5 virtual event will take place on June 4 at 4 p.m. EDT over on the official PlayStation Twitch and YouTube channels.

CONFIRMED PS5 GAMES

Since the event will talk about the games coming to the PS5, here’s a list of titles that we know are already headed to the next-gen console. Interestingly enough, many of the games that were shown off in the latest Xbox Series X event are also coming to Sony’s upcoming console.

The release dates of many of these titles range from holiday 2020 to 2021.

PS5 RELEASE DATE

Sony has been keeping a hard release date close to the chest since the console was first announced. However, Sony has maintained that the console is coming out during the “holiday 2020” window and that is not changing.

Ryan spoke with gamesindustry.biz and confirmed that the PS5 will launch globally this holiday season and that first-party games for the new console are still on schedule.

With Sony launching the PlayStation Studios brand for its first-party games, fans can expect the reveal of some console exclusives next week during the PS5 stream. Fans may even get a hard release date for the console on June 4.

PS5 SPECS

Sony held a long and informative stream diving into the specs of the upcoming PS5 back in March. Here are a few highlights from what we learned:

The GPU is increased almost 10 times from the PS4, going from 1. 84 teraflops to 10. 28. PS5 will have 825GB of internal storage, up from the PS4’s 500.

The CPU is based on the third generation of AMD’s Ryzen line and contains eight cores of the company’s new 7nm Zen 2 microarchitecture.

AMD Chip will include a custom unit for 3D audio. The GPU is a custom variant of Radeon’s Navi family. It will support ray tracing, a technique Hollywood uses in its VFX to simulate light interacting with 3D environments. PS5 will be compatible with PSVR. PS5 will have a built-in solid-state drive (SSD) that decreases load time and increases how fast worlds are rendered. The SSD has a raw bandwidth higher than any available for PCs. PS5 will support 8K graphics. PS5 will still support “physical media,” so it’s not download only. PS5 will be backwards compatible with PS4 games.
